The cause of death of the beloved lifestyle guru, Richard Simmons, has finally been revealed. His brother, Lenny Simmons, shared intimate details of Richard’s passing more than a month after the tragedy occurred. In a statement to People, Lenny disclosed that his brother’s death was deemed “accidental.”
The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office contacted Lenny this morning to inform him of the cause. According to Simmons’ spokesperson, the coroner determined that Richard’s death was a result of complications from recent falls and heart disease. The toxicology report revealed no issues, apart from the medication Richard had been prescribed. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received during this time of great loss.
Richard Simmons had mentioned feeling dizzy to his housekeeper on July 12, just before he took a fall. He had planned to seek medical attention the following day if he still felt ill. His spokesperson, Tom Estey, mournfully stated, “The world has truly lost an angel.”
Simmons passed away at the age of 76 on July 13, just one day after celebrating his birthday. He was laid to rest on July 19, surrounded only by his closest family and friends. In a statement to Fox News, Lenny requested the continued love and support of everyone during this difficult time.
Initially, the cause of Richard Simmons’ death remained under investigation. However, the Los Angeles Police Department concluded that foul play was not involved. On July 20, Simmons’ team took to his verified Facebook page to share the last post he had prepared for his fans.
Richard was known for meticulously preparing his social media posts in advance. His team shared, “Richard worked very hard on his posts for you. He had many ideas and would work ahead, making changes until he had it just like he wanted before posting.” Even after his passing, his team made sure to share the final post he had prepared for July 14th.
In this post, Simmons can be seen with his iconic curls, now turned gray, wearing a NASA spacesuit. He wrote, “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.”
As reported by People, just two days before his death, Richard expressed his gratitude for another day of life. He stated, “I am grateful that I’m here, that I am alive for another day. I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”
