Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in the hospital in critical but stable condition, his spokesperson said Sunday, according toย CNN.
โMayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and heโs fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,โ spokesperson Ted Goodman said in a statement shared onย X. No details were given about why the 81-year-old was hospitalized.

Just days earlier, Giuliani appeared on hisย X programย Americaโs Mayor Live,ย where he told viewers his voice was โa little under the weather.โ He was seen coughing during the show. His other program,ย The Rudy Giuliani Showย on LindellTV, last aired a new episode earlier in the week.
Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams also sent well wishes, saying Giuliani deserves โstrength, good health, and a full recovery,โ adding the moment โrises above politics.โ

Giuliani, once dubbed โAmericaโs mayorโ for his leadership after the September 11 attacks, has faced multiple legal and financial challenges in recent years tied to the 2020 election. He has pleaded not guilty to charges in Arizona, while a similar case in Georgia was dropped. He was also ordered to pay $148 million in a defamation case brought by election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.
Despite that, Giuliani has remained close to Donald Trump, who appointed him to a Department of Homeland Security advisory council last year.
This is not his first recent health scare. He was hospitalized in 2020 with COVID-19 and again in August after a car accident in New Hampshire, though those injuries were not considered life-threatening, per CNN.
Rudy Giuliani is an American politician, attorney and former federal prosecutor who served as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. Born on May 28, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, he first rose to national prominence as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in the 1980s, where he led high-profile prosecutions against organized crime and Wall Street figures.
As mayor, Giuliani was known for his tough-on-crime policies and efforts to reduce crime rates across the city. He gained worldwide recognition for his leadership in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, earning the nickname โAmericaโs Mayor.โ
After leaving office, Giuliani launched a consulting business and made an unsuccessful run for president in 2008. In later years, he became a close ally and personal attorney to Donald Trump, playing a prominent role in efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.
