Zohran Mamdani has emerged victorious in the New York City mayoral race, a result that has sparked considerable debate. With some branding him as a communist, MAGA supporters have been vocal in their displeasure, and former president Donald Trump even threatened to withdraw federal funding from New York City if Mamdani became mayor. Amidst the fray, Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of NYC and attorney for Trump, has weighed in with some striking advice for Mamdani—and it’s far from pleasant.
As Mamdani gears up to assume his role as Mayor of New York City, he is scheduled to take office just after midnight on January 1, 2026, in accordance with city regulations, with a swearing-in ceremony set to follow shortly thereafter.
In the recent election held in early November, Mamdani claimed victory with 50.4% of the vote, overcoming independent contender Andrew Cuomo to secure the mayoral position. While his win has been celebrated by many, it has not been well-received by those aligning with MAGA supporters.
Leading up to the November 4 election, Trump, who had endorsed Cuomo, made explicit his intent to cut funds, labeling Mamdani a “communist,” should the latter gain victory.
“Regardless of personal feelings about Andrew Cuomo, people have no option but to vote for him in hopes that he excels in the role. He can succeed, but Mamdani cannot!” Trump expressed on his social media platform, adding that voting for Sliwa would inadvertently aid Mamdani’s chances.
“Should Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani win the New York City Mayoral Election, it is unlikely that I will allocate Federal Funds to my cherished first home beyond the bare minimum required by law.”
Rudy Giuliani Extends Candid Advice to Zohran Mamdani
“A Communist in charge means this once-magnificent city stands no chance of thriving or even surviving,” continued Trump. “Things can only deteriorate with a Communist leading, and I am not inclined, in my capacity as President, to pour good money after bad. I have a duty to manage the Nation effectively, and it is my firm belief that New York City will face an utter economic and social breakdown should Mamdani prevail.”
Mamdani responded to Trump post-election. However, as he prepares to take the mantle, other voices from the MAGA circle have continued to scrutinize the young leader.
Rudy Giuliani, recently pardoned by Trump for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, has openly shared rather harsh guidance for Mamdani. In a conversation with the NY Post, Giuliani urged the new mayor-elect to resign before taking office.
“My advice to him is to withdraw and pursue a different direction,” Giuliani stated, alleging Mamdani’s association with Imam Suraj Wahhaj as indicative of his support for Muslim extremism.
“The imam he’s pictured with endorses terrorism,” Giuliani further commented. “My concern is not his Muslim faith, but rather his support for Muslim extremism.”
Giuliani Labels Zohran Mamdani a “Grave Security Concern”
Having led New York City during and after the 9/11 attacks, Giuliani was once termed “America’s Mayor.” However, he now characterizes Mamdani as a “security concern.”
“Would the federal government truly grant this individual a security clearance?” Giuliani queried in his NY Post interview. “Zohran Mamdani is a grave security threat to the United States. He’s a communist and a proponent of Muslim terrorism.”
