Sarah Ferguson is opening up about her admiration for Queen Elizabeth II more than two years after her death.
The 65-year-old former wife of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, spoke about the relationships she still has with many working members of the British royal family during a recent interview with The Times.
“She knew me all my life and she loved me,” Ferguson, who also goes by Fergie, said of the former Queen, whom she referred to as “Mumma.”
In the interview, published Dec. 14, Ferguson shared the Queen’s heartwarming final words to her before passing away.
“Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough,” she recalled, per People.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was 96 years old and spent 70 of those years as Queen of the United Kingdom.
“The Queen was much more my mother than my mother was,” Ferguson added in the interview.
“She never let me down, even if I let her down. Even through the darkest days, she never left me,” she continued.
Ferguson and Prince Andrew, the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II, met as kids before reconnecting in 1985, according to Us Weekly.
The couple tied the knot in 1986 but announced their separation six years later. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.
Their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were born in 1988 and 1990, respectively.
Ferguson says she adores King Charles and calls Queen Camilla ‘Mum’
Though Ferguson isn’t as involved with the British royal family today, she does still have a good relationship with King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla.
“Queen Camilla was close friends with Mum, which is why we’re so close now,” Ferguson said of Queen Camilla to The Times, per Town & Country.
“I admire the extraordinary support she’s giving this country. I want to do as much for the Queen as possible. I wish they’d ask me to do more,” Ferguson added.
She also referred to Princess Diana as her “best friend from the age of 14.”
As for the King, Ferguson says she has known King Charles her entire life and absolutely adores him.
“He’s kind and makes me laugh, and I love that he still calls me Fergie,” she said in the interview, referring to her popular nickname.
Ferguson’s comments came a few days before Daily Mail reported that Andrew, Ferguson and their two daughters will not be attending the royal Christmas celebrations at Sandringham.
Ferguson was last seen with King Charles and Queen Camilla for the family’s Easter Sunday services at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
It was her first time attending the service since 1991, the year before her split with Andrew, according to Town & Country.
