Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of celebrity parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has recently made headlines by announcing her decision to drop the “Pitt” from her name. She placed an advertisement in the L.A. Times, following the standard name change process to expedite the completion. Soon, she will officially be known as Shiloh Jolie.
Shiloh’s name change request, filed just days after her 18th birthday, is currently pending but is expected to be finalized soon. TMZ reports that she submitted the request on Memorial Day, which holds significance as it also marks her birthday.
This decision comes amidst reports of Brad Pitt’s troubled relationships with his children following his 2016 divorce from Angelina Jolie. The custody battles and ongoing disputes have had a significant impact on the family dynamics of their six children.
Shiloh is not the first child in the family to distance themselves from the Pitt name. Her siblings Maddox and Zahara have also chosen not to use “Pitt” in their names. In a recent Broadway musical program, 15-year-old Vivienne was referred to as Vivienne Jolie, further highlighting this trend. However, Shiloh is the only child who has formally requested a legal name change.
In an August 2022 article by People magazine, a source close to Brad Pitt revealed that he has been making efforts to improve his relationship with his children since the divorce. The insider stated, “Since Angelina filed for divorce, Brad has been focused on having the best relationship possible with his kids. It’s been very difficult for him, with long gaps where he didn’t see the kids at all.” This ongoing situation has been a source of sadness and presents ongoing challenges in the family dynamics.
