Sinéad O’Connor’s cause of death has been disclosed by authorities.
The world received the devastating news that the singer had passed away aged just 56 in July 2023.
O’Connor – who went by the name Shuhada’ Sadaqat after converting to Islam in 2018 – was a beloved Irish singer and musician.
Her best-known hit was the heartbreaking ballad ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, which was written by Prince.
In an emotional statement to RTÉ at the time, the O’Connor family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
And today, O’Connor’s cause of death has been confirmed by authorities.

The news of O’Connor’s death was felt deeply by her fans, with one person writing: “Powerhouse of a singer. A beautiful person. A true icon who stood up for what she believed in and called out those who did wrong. Rest in peace, Sinéad O’ Connor.”
Another added: “Rest in peace to Sinéad O’ Connor, one of the most beautiful musical voices to come out of our country and an even more incredible voice as an advocate for change. She will forever be missed.”
Many were deeply concerned about the news at the time, particularly as O’Connor’s death came just months after the tragic passing of her 17-year-old son.
Shane died in early 2022 just 2 days after going missing from the hospital while on suicide watch.
In her final social media post, the musician shared an image of her late child with the heartwrenching cpation: “Been living as undead night creature since.
“He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves.
“He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.”

Following the news of Shane’s passing, O’Connor’s management cancelled all of her upcoming gigs and appearances.
Theywrote: “We would like to respectfully announce that due to continuing grief over the tragic loss of her beloved son Shane earlier this year, Sinéad O’Connor will not be performing live in 2022.
“Thank you to Sinéad’s friends and fans whose support and understanding we hold in the highest esteem throughout this period.
“The love being shown has been a source of great comfort and peace for Sinéad.”
O’Connor had been candid about her mental health struggles in the past, even telling Dr. Phil 2017 she’d attempted suicide 8 times in a year.
At the time of her death, police in London responded to a report of an unresponsive woman.
When they arrived at her residence they found the singer had already passed. Attempts were made to revive her, but they were unsuccessful.
Authorities have now confirmed that O’Connor died of natural causes.
A rep for London’s Southwark Coroner’s Court tells TMZ that ‘the coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death’.
