While Donald and Melania Trump are not typically seen displaying public affection, a recent photograph has taken the internet by storm. The picture, which shows them sharing a kiss and holding hands, was posted on the official White House social media account, leading to a whirlwind of reactions online. Many people have referred to the image as “the worst attempt at damage control.”

The marriage of Donald and Melania Trump has often been a topic of interest and speculation. There have been numerous reports suggesting that the couple is experiencing difficulties. Author Michael Wolff, a vocal critic having penned multiple books on Donald Trump, has even claimed that Melania “hates” her husband.
In May 2025, an article in The New York Times added fuel to this speculation by reporting that Melania Trump had only spent 14 days in the White House since their move in January, thereby questioning the warmth between them.
Nevertheless, recent public appearances suggest a change. During the signing of the “Fostering the Future for American Children and Families” executive order on November 13, Donald and Melania were seen exchanging a kiss, marking a notable moment of public affection.
Outcry on Social Media Over Intimate White House Post
After delivering a speech and receiving applause, Melania was thanked affectionately by Donald with a kiss, and he expressed his gratitude for her caring presence as the First Lady. Not long after, the White House shared this intimate moment on social media with the phrase, “I canโt help falling in love with you.” Two days later, they posted another picture of the couple holding hands, dubbing them as “Americaโs power couple.”
The ongoing news surrounding Donald Trumpโs association with the late Jeffrey Epstein made headlines again when over 20,000 documents from Epsteinโs estate were disclosed on November 12. This included a controversial email, stirring more public debates.
Despite Donald Trump dismissing the document release as a “manufactured hoax,” he later recommended that Republicans in the House vote for its release.

“An Attempt at Damage Control?”
The timing of the intimate pictures being shared raised eyebrows, with social media users voicing various opinions. “Worst attempt at damage control in human history,” said one commentator.
Others remarked on the unfamiliar public closeness of the couple, suggesting it might indicate deeper issues. “This is the first time Iโve ever seen them this close. It must be way worse,” commented another.
Questions arose about the intent, with comments like, “doesnโt this make it look worse,” and another chiming in, “WH needs a better intern.” Amusingly, one user compared the photo to a relic, “Laughable. That moment should be preserved like King Tutโs crown… something that wasn’t seen for thousands of years.”
