The internet personality died on Friday following a seven-year struggle with fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma, a rare form of liver cancer. Throughout her journey, Rachel shared her experiences on TikTok, inspiring many with her strength and transparency. Her final update, posted in September, revealed she was facing major challenges after undergoing recent radiation treatment.
Rachel shared her final TikTok on September 1, expressing gratitude for being back home in New York after briefly relocating to Maryland to be closer to her family during treatment. In earlier posts, she candidly reflected on her harrowing journey with cancer, revealing that her intuition first alerted her to something being wrong in her late teens. Initially dismissing her concerns, she later sought medical advice, and a tumor was discovered on her liver. Though she underwent surgery to remove it, the cancer spread to her lungs and liver, leading to a years-long battle she bravely fought.
Rachel was 27 years old. Her family has announced that they will be sitting shiva this week, with all services to remain private.
Rachel Yaffe is survived by her parents, her 2 siblings,her grandmother, and her beloved dog. In her memory, the family has requested that donations be made to Experience Camps, a nonprofit based in Westport, Connecticut, dedicated to supporting grieving children.
