Police are investigating the death of popular South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron.
The 24-year-old “Bloodhounds” actress was reportedly found dead at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea at around 4:50 p.m. Sunday, according to The Korea Herald.
Sae-ron’s body was discovered by a friend who had plans of meeting up with her. The friend, who remains anonymous, called the police shortly after.
“We have not found any signs of foul play as of yet, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death,” a local police official said, per Yonhap News Agency, which was first to report the news.
No further details have been provided, as of Feb. 16.
Sae-ron rose to fame as a child actor in 2009
Sae-ron, who was born in Seoul in 2000, was once one of South Korea’s most promising actresses.
She began acting at the age of nine and quickly rose to prominence in the 2009 film “A Brand New Life,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won her two awards in 2010.
Her rise to stardom continued with her role in the 2010 film “The Man From Nowhere,” which was the highest-grossing film in South Korea that year.
She later starred in the 2012 thriller “The Neighbour” and 2014 film “A Girl at My Door” before appearing in a handful of TV series over the next eight years.
In 2022, Sae-ron’s career stalled following a drunk driving accident that saw the star actress arrested and held responsible for cutting off power to the Gangnam District in Seoul, according to Rolling Stone.
Sae-ron was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023.
The incident also resulted in Sae-ron stepping down from her role in the drama series “Trolley,” according to the South China Morning Post.
While she attempted a comeback several months later with her role in Netflix’s 2023 Korean drama “Bloodhounds,” most of her scenes were cut out due to the incident, per Variety.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of Sae-ron’s death. No further details have been provided.
