‘Star Wars’ And ‘Gremlins’ Actor Has Passed Away

Voice actor Mark Dodson was best known for lending his voice to multiple gremlins in the movies “Gremlins” and “Gremlins 2: The New Batch.” He credits landing that role to another role that made him famous, voicing the character Salacious Crumb in the film “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”

According to IMDB, Dodson worked on 54 films, TV shows and video games as a voice actor. Most recently, he lent his voice to the video game “Phantasmat: Insidious Dreams” which has yet to be completed.

Unfortunately, TMZ reports that Dodson has died at the age of 64 years old. Dodson’s daughter, Ciara, told TMZ that her father was in Evansville, Indiana, at the time of his death. He was there to attend Horror Con, but he never made it to the convention.

According to Dodson’s daughter, her father checked into his hotel and experienced a “massive heart attack” in his hotel room while he was sleeping. She says her father “never ceased making me proud.” Dodson is survived by his daughter and his grandchildren.

Horror Con ended up announcing Dodson’s death on their Facebook page explaining that Dodson passed away the night before the conference, March 1, 2024. They remembered Dodson as “not only a talented voice actor but also a cherished member of the horror community.”

Nine months ago, Dodson reflected on his acting career and the roles that made him famous on the talk show Diabolic Shrimp. He shared that he was working as a carpenter at Skywalker Ranch when he was offered the job on “Gremlins.” He initially thought the job offer was “a prank.”

Dodson explained that the men who created Salacious Crumb were in a production meeting for “Gremlins” when the producers asked them if they knew who did the voice work. They did, so they called Dodson and told him, “You have been requested to do this Spielberg movie.”

At the time of the interview, Dodson was hopeful about one day working on a third “Gremlins” movie. Watch the video below to hear more of Dodson’s interview and to learn more about his voice acting career.
