Every now and then, the world comes across a video so hilarious that people can’t help but pass it around to all of their friends and family members. Sometimes these videos include animals doing amazing tricks or babies doing something absolutely precious. And while these viral videos can come in all shapes and sizes, it is safe to say that many have come from surprising talk show interviews, including some from Steve Harvey and his plethora of shows.
Most of us know Harvey as a comedian and the host of the TV show “Family Feud.” He has also graced the screen by hosting other programs such as the “Miss Universe” competition, “Judge Steve Harvey” and “The Steve Harvey Show.” This talented man has also worked as a businessman and has even written four books. On top of that, he has a bustling family life.
American actor and show host Harvey has gained a huge following for his hosting roles in other popular programs such as “Little Big Shots.” He’s beloved for his ability to put a smile on people’s faces with his good-natured sense of humor and rapport with guests. One memorable episode included a young guest named Oscar, who was from Scotland.
Oscar is a pretty talented kid, so it is easy to see how he ended up on one of Harvey’s many programs. However, Harvey was unable to understand the adorable tot, resulting in quite a hilarious interview. Read on to learn more about Harvey’s career and see his unmissable interaction with Oscar.
Harvey was born on Jan. 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. His full name is actually Broderick Stephen Harvey Sr., as he was named after actor Broderick Crawford from the TV series “Highway Patrol.”
Harvey has certainly proven to be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the world of television. He has had success for several years and is easily recognizable for his silly expressions whenever guests give outlandish answers.
However, what many people may not be aware of is that Harvey went through many struggles before finding his way to fame. This man would do anything for his kids, and it’s evident that his children and step-children greatly appreciate the sacrifices he’s made along the way.
While it may feel like Harvey has been a part of our lives and an active member of Hollywood forever, he wasn’t born into fame. Growing up, he tried his hand at just about every job imaginable to make ends meet, including working as a boxer and a mailman. Harvey’s dream, though, was to make it big in the world of stand-up comedy. However, he suffered a string of failures and was even homeless for several years.
Through it all, Harvey did everything he could to provide for his children. Nowadays, he is able to celebrate all of his accomplishments alongside them, giving them the best life possible and proving that you can overcome any hardship as long as you have your loved ones by your side. Although Harvey has faced some heartache in his personal life, he is now happily married and has seven children.
When he was young, Harvey and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Harvey graduated from Glenville High School in 1974. He had a severe stuttering problem as a child but worked hard to overcome it – something that is definitely apparent in all of his work on television and radio. After finishing high school, Harvey went on to attend Kent State University and West Virginia University.
And while he had a strong focus on his studies, Harvey was also sure to keep pursuing his passions. It was not long before Harvey found his calling and performed his first stand-up comedy routine in 1985. However, finding his passion did not mean that he was finding success, as he actually struggled to make ends meet. According to PEOPLE, Harvey found himself living in his car for three years during the late 1980s when he performed gigs that did not provide a hotel. He even showered at gas stations or swimming pool showers.
This was not the only tribulation Harvey was going through during this point in his life. He was also dealing with heartbreak, as his first marriage to Marcia Harvey ended in 1994. They tied the knot in 1981 and had two children together.
Harvey did not give up on love, though, and married again to a woman named Mary Shackelford. They were married from 1996 until 2005 and had one child together. Although their marriage did not last, there were, fortunately, better times ahead for the comedian as a new wife and a new job opportunity were right around the corner.
In June 2007, Harvey married Marjorie Bridges, the woman who he says is responsible for making him the man he is today and completely changing his life for the better. Bridges was already a mother to three children, all of whom Harvey happily adopted, according to The Sun.
The good news for Harvey didn’t end there, as he began hosting the highly loved game show “Family Feud” in September 2010. While Harvey was already establishing a career for himself prior to this gig, landing the hosting job on the game show further cemented himself as a professional television host.
Harvey has since gone on to become a well-known and adored star, finding plenty of fame and success along the way. Celebrity Net Worth reported that Harvey’s estimated net worth is $200 million, with an average salary of $45 million. He earned about $90 million from 2017 to 2019 from several different business ventures and also earned at least $10 million as the host of “Family Feud.”
His family was always supportive of his career and appreciative of the sacrifices he made along the way, proving that he has a lot of love to give to his beautiful wife and seven children. Harvey’s children from his first wife are his two twin daughters, Brandi and Karli and his son Broderick Harvey Jr. His marriage to Shackelford gave him his fourth child and his second son Wynton. Harvey’s marriage to his current wife, Bridges, blessed him with three more children, as he graciously adopted Morgan, Lori and Jason.
All of Harvey’s children are extremely bright and talented and are doing their best to find success. According to The Sun, Brandi is a founder of Beyond Her – an online meal prep website for women. The brand’s mission is “to bring active wellness to women of color in collaborative and transformative ways to elevate the mind, body and spirit.”
Karli is a public speaker who is using her name for good as she actually mentors through the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, according to The Sun. Broderick is another Harvey child who is doing his part to give back, as he works at the Harvey foundation while also owning his own clothing line called Need Money Not Friends. Jason is also an owner of a fashion line, owning the luxury women’s footwear company Yevrah.
Harvey’s other children have shown great interest in the entertainment industry. Morgan is a pastry chef, obtaining her culinary degree from the Culinary Institute of America, where she specialized in baking and pastry. Morgan has also appeared on “The Steve Harvey Show” to showcase her recipes.
Wynton is an aspiring photographer, and Lori is a model who has appeared in a few magazines. According to The Sun, Lori began dating actor Michael B. Jordan in November 2020. Thankfully, her dad approved, as Harvey called Jordan a “nice guy.” However, the pair’s relationship ended in the summer of 2022.
Harvey’s big family is still expanding. According to Good Housekeeping, he and his wife have a growing number of grandchildren together including, Benjamin, Elle, Noah, Rose, Ezra and Marley Jean. That’s a lot of love to go around!
Harvey’s appearances with kids on “Little Big Shots” have endeared him to a whole new generation of television viewers. The show features amazingly talented and adorable children. Harvey gets a kick out of interviewing them because of their unpredictable antics. It’s a heartwarming, feel-good variety show that seems like a throwback to variety shows featuring children that many people grew up enjoying in their younger years.
One of the memorable episodes of the show included a young guest named Oscar who was from Scotland. The talented boy was absolutely mesmerizing on the show and has since gone on to find more fame as he has shown off his great dancing abilities.
According to the Daily Record, Oscar showed off his dancing skills on the British version of “Little Big Shots” and wowed comedian Dawn French. Oscar was referred to as “Wee Mick” and easily became a global sensation. Annie Walters, Oscar’s mom, said, “Oscar loved every moment on the show. He took it all in his stride. He doesn’t know how to be nervous and just bounded up on to the stage.”
She added, “Dawn was amazing with the kids – she’s so friendly and down to earth, which puts them at ease. Oscar had no problem dancing in front of the audience and under the bright lights.”
Oscar has been dancing for many years now. “He has been dancing since before he was 3 and he loves every minute of it,” Walters said. “His feet are always moving and he can’t sit still for long.”
According to The Sun, Oscar was also named the best at Irish dancing at the 50th anniversary of Irish Dancing Championships in 2022. “He had to qualify to compete at this level of competition as kids from all around the world aim to qualify to get to that world stage,” Walters said. “There were 32 qualifying booths in the under 11 category and Oscar won.” Oscar also performed on “Britain’s Got Talent,” with many viewers comparing him to the likes of Michael Flatley.
To everyone’s amazement, Flatley turned up at the Irish Dancing Championships! “Oscar’s hero Michael Flatley turned up and Oscar got to meet him before being announced as the world champion, so it was a very special day,” Oscar’s mom said.
It’s clear that Oscar has continued to wow people with his charm and talent, but that all started several years ago when Harvey interviewed him. While a guest on “Little Big Shots,” Oscar stole the audience’s hearts with his thick Scottish brogue. The best part of it for many viewers, however, was Harvey’s apparent inability to understand what the young lad was trying to say.
Harvey started out by asking young Oscar what subject he enjoyed most at school. When the boy offered an answer, Harvey responded with a blank stare that seemed to convey complete and utter confusion.
Harvey didn’t know what to think when the boy’s reply turned out to be fish, but because of his accent, he pronounced it as “fesh.” Harvey asked him what it was he liked. Once again, Oscar told him, “Fesh.” When he did so the second time, his eyes grew wide, he licked his lips and let out the sound “mm,” to indicate the idea of eating something tasty.
Harvey still had no clue what Oscar the Scottish boy was referring to! So, Oscar decided to explain further by describing where the “fesh” lived: “in the sea.” Finally, Harvey caught on to what Oscar was talking about. Since fish isn’t really a class you take at school, it kind of makes sense that the host drew a blank at the boy’s thickly-accented answer.
Harvey inquired about why the boy was talking about fish in connection with the school. Oscar answered that he likes eating fish that’s prepared at his school for lunch. Like many kids, it turned out that lunch was the boy’s favorite subject!
Harvey eventually couldn’t ignore the boy’s unusual pronunciation of the vowel in “fish” as a short “e” sound instead of our typical American short “i” sound. Oscar insisted that his pronunciation was the right one, and he even tried to get Harvey to say the word with a Scottish accent! Harvey wasn’t having it. The audience cracked up at the absurd exchange.
Finally, overcoming their differences over the pronunciation of the word “fish,” Harvey explored which kind of fish meal Oscar most prefers. His mom told Harvey that Oscar likes “fesh and cheps,” which is what Scottish people call French Fries. On this point, Harvey was in complete agreement with Oscar.
Steve Harvey and his young guests on “Little Big Shots” certainly know how to bring out the most in each other! We’re happy to see Oscar has continued to make the world smile, and we can’t wait to see what else his future holds!
