The Al Roker Family Suffers A Heartbreaking Loss

Al Roker and his family are grieving a heartbreaking loss. Alice Bell, the first wife of the Today show anchor and mother to their daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, has passed away at the age of 77, Courtney confirmed on social media on February 11.

“She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky. I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always.”

Courtney shared the news alongside a series of heartfelt images of her mother. The photos included two framed pictures of a young Courtney with Alice, followed by two touching moments of Alice holding Sky, Courtney’s baby daughter. In the latter images, Alice appeared to be receiving oxygen support.

Among those offering condolences in the comments was former Today co host Tamron Hall, who wrote, “Sending our love.”

Alice’s family has not disclosed details about her cause of death, and Al was notably absent from the Today broadcast on Feb. 11, according to E! News.

Al and Alice were married from 1984 to 1994 and adopted their daughter, Courtney, in 1987. Al later welcomed two more children, Leila, 26, and Nicholas, 22, with his wife, Deborah Roberts.

Though Alice largely stayed out of the public eye over the years, in 2022, Courtney shared a heartfelt message honoring the many mother figures in her life.

“Happy Mother’s Day to the three most important women in my life. My mom Alice, my stepmother Deborah and my mother in law Barbara” Courtney wrote in her Instagram post.
