The Oldest Member Of The Osmonds, Passed Away At 76

Alan Osmond, the oldest member of The Osmonds, has died at the age of 76.

Born in Ogden, Alan passed away at around 8:30 p.m. local time on Monday, April 20, a family spokesperson confirmed to CBS affiliateย KUTV.

His wife, Suzanne Pinegar Osmond, and their eight sons were by his side when he died, according to the outlet.

Alan had stepped away from performing decades ago after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis roughly 40 years ago.

Alanโ€™s brother, Merrill Osmond, 72, made a statement to People, โ€œIt is with profound sadness that we share the passing of my beloved brother, Alan Osmond. I was grateful to be with him shortly before he passed and to share a final meaningful moment together. Alan was a gifted creator, a man of faith, and a deeply loving soul whose life blessed many.โ€

โ€œOur family is thankful for the outpouring of love and prayers. We will honor his memory and the message he cared so deeply about. He will be missed beyond words.โ€

Brothers Alan Osmond, Wayne Osmond, Merrill Osmond, Jay Osmond and later Donny Osmond came together to form The Osmonds in the 1970s, launching a career that would quickly catapult them to international fame.

Raised in Utah by their parents, George Virl Osmond and Olive May Osmond, the siblings grew up alongside brothers Virl, Jimmy and Tom, as well as sister Marie Osmond.

Alan, the eldest performing brother, stepped into a leadership role at just 8 years old, earning the nickname โ€œNo. 1โ€ from his siblings, according to PEOPLE. While they were not part of the performing lineup, older brothers Virl and Tom โ€” both born nearly deaf โ€” still played an important role in the familyโ€™s musical journey. Virl, in particular, helped teach his brothers how to tap dance, a detail later shared in the documentaryย Being the Osmonds.

Alan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Suzanne Pinegar Osmond, and their eight sons: Michael, Nathan, Doug, David, Scott, Jon, Alex and Tyler. He also leaves behind 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, according to KUTV.

Beyond music, Alan made a lasting impact through philanthropy. He helped co-create the Childrenโ€™s Miracle Network Hospitals Telethon, which has raised more than $2 billion for childrenโ€™s hospitals, and later founded the One Heart Foundation to support orphaned children around the world.
