At just 22 years old, Greta Thunberg, a prominent climate activist, has captured the world’s attention since she initiated her climate strike movement in 2018. As she has matured, Greta has chosen to abstain from something many her age might experiment with: drinking alcohol. Let’s explore why she’s made this choice.

Greta continues her dedication to activism. Most recently, she participated in a flotilla delivering aid to Gaza, but when Israeli forces intercepted the boats, Greta was detained. Despite the possibility of intimidation from such experiences, she remains steadfast in her mission.
Since rising to international recognition after her climate strike, and even addressing the United Nations, Greta has maintained her focus strictly on her activism without seeking monetary gains. During a conversation with The Times in 2022, she revealed that her main source of income is the student grant she receives for attending university.
“Any money I earn gets donated to charity. It would be nice to have money, but by donating, I can ignite discussions on different issues. If I donate to rewilding or nature conservation, for instance, I can start a conversation about those topics. Or if I donate to refugees, it opens up discussions about refugees โ which allows for further explanation,” Greta shared.
Reaching adulthood often brings with it the allure of trying new experiences, such as having your first drink. However, Greta Thunberg has chosen not to partake in such activities.
Why Greta Thunberg Avoids Alcohol
Greta has expressed to The Times that she has never experienced drunkenness and is not interested in going out drinking or engaging in reckless behavior. She further elaborated on this decision by saying, “I’m not sure if it’s just my nature or if I’m avoiding being in the spotlight for such reasons. Perhaps it’s a bit of both,” she explained.
