Former President Trump is known for his sharp retorts, and during a recent press conference, he didn’t hold back when responding to a reporter who used a less-than-flattering nickname for him. This came after a discussion about how his tariff threats affected the stock market.

In his fiery return to politics, Trump has swiftly initiated a series of executive orders and imposed tariffs targeting various countries. These tariffs are expected to have significant effects on both international economies and major U.S. corporations like Walmart and Apple.
Initially, these measures caused stock market fluctuations, but recently, the market recovered, leading to a new term from Wall Street insiders who were inspired by what Trump referred to as ‘Liberation Day.’
The nickname wasn’t well-received by Trump. During the tense interaction at a White House press conference on May 28, a reporter brought up this nickname.

Understanding ‘TACO Trade’
A reporter asked Trump, “They’re saying ‘Trump Always Chickens Out’ on the tariff threats, and that’s why markets are higher this week. How do you respond to that?” The term they used was ‘TACO trade’, suggesting that Trump’s frequent postponements of tariffs might actually be benefiting the stock market.
Initially, Trump seemed a bit puzzled by the question. To provide some context, the nickname comes from the observation that Trump’s delays, such as moving the deadline for negotiating the 50 percent tariff on EU goods from June 1 to July 9, have allowed the stock market to regain stability.
Once he understood the implication, Trump was not pleased. He stated, “Six months ago, this country was stone-cold dead. We had a country many thought wouldn’t survive. You ask a question like that?”
He continued with a warning, saying, “Don’t ever say what you said again. That’s a nasty question.”
This interaction wasn’t an isolated case of Trump clashing with reporters.

Trump’s Reaction to Another Reporter
Just a few days before on May 20, Trump had another terse encounter with a journalist while at Capitol Hill.
A reporter from NOTUS posed a question: “Andy Harris mentioned that you didn’t do enough to convince people to support the bill?”
Trump’s response began with a query about the journalist’s employer, which was NOTUS. Clearly unimpressed, Trump replied, “Who? I don’t even know what the hell that is. Get yourself a real job.”
This incident is just another example of Trump’s combative approach towards the media, especially when confronted with challenging questions or criticism.
