The tensions concerning Greenland are escalating.
The President of the United States has issued a fresh warning.
Even after a survey last year showed that 85% of Greenland’s populace is opposed to becoming part of the United States, the President remains forceful about taking control over the Arctic region. Just recently, he released a stern, new warning.
Using Truth Social on a Monday morning, the President strongly criticized Denmark for what he describes as its failure to tackle the “Russian threat” around Greenland, firmly stating:
“Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!”

He declared that NATO has been urging Denmark for two decades to push the “Russian threat away from Greenland,โ indicating that he might take independent action.
“Until Greenland becomes American”
This statement followed just a day after the President introduced a 10% tariff on merchandise from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. This move targeted nations he believes are preventing U.S. control of Greenland.
Effective from February 1, he cautioned that these tariffs will remain “until Greenland becomes American.”
This has quickly ignited reactions across Europe. EU ambassadors engaged in emergency discussions on Sunday, and EU Council President Antonio Costa made a firm announcement: “Tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and are incompatible with the EU-U.S. trade agreement.”
Costa further mentioned that the European Union is “ready to defend ourselves against any form of coercion,” with a special EU leadership summit planned for Thursday to tackle the Greenland issue.

Denmark, together with Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland, released a combined declaration emphasizing that their troops deployed to Greenland for Operation Arctic Endurance present “no threat to anyone.”
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lรธkke Rasmussen noted the ongoing conversations but emphasized, “we will not give up on thatโฆ So we will stay on track โ unless U.S. decides differently.” Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide added:
“We will not allow ourselves to be put under pressure, and those types of threats (of U.S. tariffs) are unacceptable between close allies.”
“Abolishing NATO as we know it”
Experts suggest this dispute marks one of Europeโs most pronounced criticisms since the President resumed office nearly a year ago.
Republican Representative Michael McCaul cautioned against a potential U.S. military intervention in Greenland Sunday, arguing it could set America against its NATO allies โ potentially even unraveling the alliance.
Speaking on This Week, McCaul โ who previously chaired both the House Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security Committees โ expressed disapproval of President Trump’s commentary and threats linked to the Arctic region.

“The reality is, the President already has complete military access to Greenland for protection,” McCaul stated.
“Purchasing Greenland might be one matter, but resorting to military action would upend Article 5 of NATO, and could push us into a direct conflict with NATO members. It would, in essence, dismantle NATO as it stands today.”
