Donald Trump can’t seem to stop discussing Joe Biden, and his latest rally in Pennsylvania made that clear once again.
During a lively gathering in Mount Pocono, Trump veered from his usual nicknames for President Biden and tried out something a bit different and harsher.
Having called Biden names like “Sleepy Joe” and “Crooked Joe” in the past, Trump tested a new insult while boasting about his ability to gauge crowd reactions without the need for professional polls.
He humorously asserted that instead of polls, he could simply consult the thousands of rally attendees about their favorite nickname.
“Most often, ‘Crooked Joe’ is the crowd favorite,” he revealed, then added with a grin, “Though to me, he’s a sleepy son of a b—.”
Trump Jokes About “Chief of Staff”
Trump also touched on the term “chief of staff,” humorously noting that it lost some popularity since Native Americans had raised objections, yet he claimed they “actually welcome the title.” He also gave a nod to someone named Wiles, praising them as “fantastic.”
Blaming Biden for Economic Woes
This rally came at a time when polling indicates some voters are questioning Trump’s economic track record. Recent elections have left Republicans with less-than-stellar outcomes, while the White House suggests the economy is gaining stability and argues that inflation isn’t linked to Biden’s policies.
Nevertheless, Trump continues to place the blame for inflation on Biden, despite price levels showing signs of stabilizing since 2022. Experts have noted that Trump’s own wide-reaching tariffs have contributed to rising prices in the U.S. — predictions that have largely been borne out.
At a Monday White House event, Trump asserted that his administration was effectively reducing prices, declaring:
“We’re driving prices down significantly… it was the Democrats who caused affordability issues, and we’re the ones resolving them.”
Eschewing the Teleprompter
Despite highlighting “affordability” as a key message, Trump now often refers to the concept as a “Democratic ruse.”
The rally was held in the territory represented by GOP Rep. Rob Bresnahan, who barely secured his 2024 win and is now a prominent target for Democrats. Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti is one of the challengers gearing up to face him. As Trump spoke, Democrats launched online ads criticizing Bresnahan’s stock transactions and accusing Trump of overlooking corruption.
Before Trump took the stage, Bresnahan told his supporters that the electorate demanded results over partisan squabbles, emphasizing that efforts were in place to lower costs.
About an hour into his address, Trump admitted that things hadn’t gone according to script. His remarks extended to 1 hour and 36 minutes.
“I haven’t paid much mind to the teleprompter today,” he joked. “And still, my speechwriters keep raking in awards for their beautiful speeches — which I hardly read.”
