Following the passing of Christine McVie, a member of the Fleetwood Mac band, at the age of 79, Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks have led tributes to the “unique” singer.
Nicks bemoaned the loss of her “best friend in the entire world,” while Fleetwood claimed that after hearing the news, a piece of his heart had “flown away.”
Following a brief illness, McVie’s family announced her passing on Wednesday. Although Fleetwood and Nicks later shared their own private statements on social media, Fleetwood Mac issued a unified statement.
Fleetwood penned, “This is a day where my beloved sweet Friend Christine McVie has flown to flight and left us earthbound individuals to listen to the songs of that songbird,’ telling one and all that love is all about us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is bestowed to us.
“Today, a piece of my heart has flown away… Everything about you, Christine McVie, will be missed. Memories fly to me from everywhere. Michael Fleetwood
Nicks claimed that she had wished to visit McVie in London but had not been aware of her condition until Saturday night.
She sent a touching message on Instagram stating, “A few hours ago I was told that my best buddy in the entire world since the first day of 1975, had died away.” “Until late Saturday night, I was completely unaware that she was ill. I desperately wanted to be in London and travel there, but we were advised to wait.

Rumors, one of the best-selling albums of all time and possibly their most well-known, was released in 1977 and featured singles like Second Hand News and You Make Loving Fun. The album also featured a number of multi-platinum songs and sold more than 40 million copies globally.
McVie was referred to as “really one-of-a-kind, extraordinary, and talented beyond measure” in a tweet from the band.
“There are no adequate words to express our sorrow at Christine McVie’s demise. She was absolutely unique, exceptional, and incredibly gifted, according to the statement.
In addition to being the finest friend someone could have, she was the best musician anyone could have in their band.
“To share a life with her was such a blessing. We all loved Christine very much and are grateful for the wonderful memories we have of her. She is going to be sorely missed.
Songbird, one of the band’s most well-known songs, as well as You Make Loving Fun, Oh Daddy, and Little Lies were written by singer-songwriter and keyboardist McVie.
John Taylor, the bassist for Duran Duran, claimed that McVie “radiated both purity and sass in equal measure.”
Taylor wrote on the group’s account, “Incredibly so sad to learn about Christine McVie, an artist I held dear and close to my heart. She was one of the finest singers, songwriters, and band members of all time. She emanated innocence and sass in equal measure, illuminating the music of the 1970s. RIP. – John.”
Sheryl Crow, a US performer, also paid respect to Christine McVie by writing: “I am so sad to hear of Christine McVie going on to heaven. Without her, the world seems strange. What a legend, an icon, and a remarkable person. RIP.”
Christine Perfect, named after McVie’s maiden name, was the title of her debut solo album in 1970. There are perhaps a few nice songs on there, she told Uncut magazine in an interview this year.
Before releasing another album In The Meantime in 2004, McVie waited another 14 years to record a follow-up solo album titled Christine McVie. The musician published Songbird in June of this year, which is a compilation of songs from two of her previous solo albums.
She was one of the eight band members that were honored in 1998 with induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. McVie quit the group in 1998, almost three decades later, but returned in 2014 after a special performance at the O2 rekindled her passion for singing and performing.
She reportedly told the Guardian at the time, “It was great, like I’d never gone. The same familiar faces were on stage when I climbed back up there.
After leaving the band and moving from California to Kent, she made an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2017. There, she discussed how she had become more reclusive and had developed agoraphobia.
Two years have passed since the passing of Peter Green, the other co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, who was 73.
“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of Christine’s passing,” her family wrote in a statement. After a brief illness, she passed away quietly this morning, Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the hospital.
She was present with her family. We respectfully request that you keep the family’s privacy in mind during this incredibly difficult time, and we ask that everyone remember Christine as a wonderful human being and revered musician who was adored by all.
