For over five decades, Rod Stewart has graced the music world with his talent. With over 250 million albums sold, his career is nothing short of legendary. Recently, he was celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 American Music Awards.

Despite his immense success, Rod has faced significant health challenges. He has battled cancer twice, yet chose not to disclose his prostate cancer diagnosis to his children nearly a decade ago.
Rod Stewart’s life story is one for the books. From his beginnings as the son of a plumber in London, England, he climbed the ranks to fame in the 1960s. His solo debut album, ‘An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down’, hit the shelves in 1969.
Through the years, Rod has maintained his spotlights, captivating listeners with his unique voice, and amassed a myriad of awards. His recent accolade at the American Music Awards, presented by five of his eight children – Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee, and Liam – was especially dear to him.
“I’m absolutely flabbergasted. I had no idea my children were present,” Rod shared. “When I began singing in the early ’60s, my sole ambition was to sing, not to seek wealth and fame. So, it’s a profound honor to be here receiving this award.”

The journey hasn’t been without its trials. In 2000, Rod had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his thyroid gland, jeopardizing his singing career. “The risk to my singing voice wasn’t disclosed until post-surgery,” Rod shared with AARP.
Rehabilitation was crucial for Rod to reclaim his voice and confidence. “Post-operation, my vocal chords had to relearn every note,” he explained to ITV. “It was a painstaking process, but after six months, I regained my voice.”
Rod Stewart Kept His Cancer Diagnosis From His Children
In 2016, Rod Stewart was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The reassuring news of potential recovery led him to withhold the diagnosis from his children, sparing them undue worry. “I’m now clear, and I didn’t want them to endure unnecessary anxiety,” he confessed.
He reflects fondly on his family’s resilience and love during tough times. “We may not have had much financially, but our bond was priceless. I was showered with love, and the occasional treat,” he reminisced.
Rod treasures memories like hearing ‘Maggie May’ on the radio for the first time and sharing his milestone cheque with his parents, whom he cherished dearly.
A two-time cancer survivor, Rod Stewart is committed to aiding those grappling with cancer and advancing the search for a cure. His efforts include supporting the City of Hope Foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.
“I’m One of the Lucky Ones”
Recently, Rod generously donated around $13,000 to the NHS Grampian cancer facility in Aberdeenshire, supporting patients battling the disease.
“I count myself fortunate,” Rod declared to the Oral Cancer Foundation. “The initial thought was ‘Why me?’ which then shifted to ‘How can I help others?’”
Rod added, “Seeing small children facing such grim battles, I realize my good fortune. It’s a privilege, and I feel there’s more I need to accomplish.”
Thank you, Rod Stewart, for your relentless efforts toward cancer research and aid. Let’s share this narrative with family and friends to commend his dedication!
