John Lennon’s son, Julian Lennon, shares health update after cancer returns

Julian Lennon is urging his fans and followers to get screened for cancer.

The 61-year-old son of legendary musician John Lennon took to his X account Dec. 18 to share a somber, yet optimistic update on his health five years after having a cancerous mole removed from his head.

While the cancer has returned, albeit in a different spot, Lennon underwent emergency surgery and described the operation as a success, though they’re still waiting for results.

In his post, Lennon says he was about to fly from LA to New York for a few TV and radio appearances, as well as a book signing, when he decided to visit his “lovely dermatologist, Dr. Tess.”

“[She] was the one who caught & operated on My Mole/Skin Cancer, a few years ago, and literally saved My Life…” he wrote on X.

While in New York, having just finished an interview with “Good Morning America,” Lennon received an urgent message from Dr. Tess, who asked him to return to LA as soon as possible.

“I had 2 locations on My Skin, Shoulder & Forearm, one of which was Melanoma, that should be operated on ASAP!” he wrote alongside two “disturbing images” of the locations.

Instead of returning home to Monaco, where he resides, according to “Monaco Life,” Lennon flew back to LA for surgery.

“So instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, relaxing at home, I flew directly back to Los Angeles, after all my work in New York was done, and went directly from LAX airport, to surgery,” he added.

Lennon says ‘good news’ would be the ‘best christmas present ever’

Lennon was referred to Dr. Tim Neavin, who spent “several hours cleaning up and operating” on him with the hopes of removing any signs of cancer.

“The operation was a success, but we have yet to have the results of the biopsy, which we may not receive before Christmas…” Lennon explained in the post.

He then thanked Dr. Tess and Dr. Tim for coordinating the surgery on such short notice, as well as “saving [his] life” again.

“One can never be too confident in circumstances like this, but we all believe that Dr Tim has saved the day… So finger’s crossed for now,” he continued.

Lennon concluded his post with a friendly and timely reminder to “please get yourself checked out by your doctor,” adding that it “only takes a short while to do so” and could be life-saving.

“So please, for the sake of yourself, your family and friends just go to your Dr and do what must be done…” he wrote before wishing his followers a “Happy Holidaze” and a “healthy long life.”

The post comes roughly five years after the “Too Late for Goodbyes” singer revealed that he had a malignant mole removed from his head.

“I cannot tell you how I felt, from One moment of Joy, to the fear of feeling that I may be gone, at any given moment,” he wrote in a February 2020 Facebook post.

He clarified that the mole had been present, along with a birthmark, his entire life, but it “looked and felt” different when he visited Dr. Tess several days prior.

“I’m still shaking inside… But My Faith is Strong….” he wrote at the time, adding that he wasn’t revealing the news for sympathy. Instead, he wanted to use it as a wake up call for others.

“Go twice a year, if you can, minimum,” he said of visiting your doctor. “Things can turn in a Day, as it did with Me.”
