Top-rated conservative podcaster and former Fox News star Dan Bongino shared some heart-wrenching news with his fans during his show on Friday.

Bongino opened his show by informing listeners and viewers he would be ending it early after his mother’s unexpected passing.

“Folks, I’m going to end the show early today. I’m going to tell you what happened last night because I’m having a bit of a rough time, as you can tell. I’m going to try to get through this unexpectedly. She fell down a flight of stairs. And I found out at about 4:43 in the morning,” Bongino said.

As he struggled to deal with his grief, Bongino went on to share how the experience had profoundly impacted him in other ways.

“For those of you who don’t believe in God, I’m not here to judge you…But I want to tell you something. I want to tell you in advance, I’m not crazy, o.k.?” he said. “Someone grabbed me. Like hugged me. Like a mom.”

He went on to try and describe what he felt in a rational way.

“I’m telling you, it was real. I actually jumped up. I know it sounds crazy, but I was looking for my gun. And I started looking around the house…” he told listeners.

“She called me Danny, the only one, no one else on planet Earth besides my mom. Calls me Danny, and now no one else does at all,” he recounted. “As I sat this morning, in my own shower, hunched over, kind of crying a little bit, I’ve never believed more in the power of Jesus.”

Bongino then concluded: “I’ll let you guys know about the show tomorrow…but obviously, I have to bury her, and my brothers and I, so we got some stuff to take care of.”

In May 2023, Bongino got somewhat emotional during an interview with SiriusXM podcaster Megyn Kelly when he talked about his leaving Fox News and gave an update on his health following a cancer diagnosis.

Bongino spoke about his departure in late April, which left many confused given it came around the same that Fox cut ties with top-rated host Tucker Carlson. Bongino said he left the network over a difference in vision for his show.

“I think a lot of people think this may be some kind of anti-Trump thing. I gotta say — that wasn’t my case,” Bongino said.

“I was not targeted. My show, they were dying to re-up — we negotiated for an entire year. So I can’t tell you like, ‘Oh, Fox got rid of me,’ because they didn’t. The liberal jerk wads are gonna go, ‘Oh Dan Bongino was fired.’ I just give them the middle fingers. It’s just stupid,” Bongino said.

“I negotiate my own deals. I don’t have an agent. I do my own business deals. I don’t need any, I do my own business. They wanted the show. I just had a different vision for my role at the network and that’s okay. I’m not the Saturday guy, Megyn, I’m sorry I can’t work six days a week. I’ve got young kids and I’m not working six days a week. And even though we recorded the show on Friday, you know, the inside baseball of Fox, what happens when there’s breaking news? Which with Trump out there is all the time — you gotta be on,” Bongino concluded.

“It’s hard — so I couldn’t do it. And I said, ‘I’m sorry, that’s not gonna work out.’ So I definitely was not fired. Liberals are just making that up… but I’m not the easiest guy to deal with Megyn,” Bongino said.

Bongino also fought back tears, discussing the day he found out he had cancer and the uphill battle it’s been since that day in 2020.
