Linda Thompson makes the shattering announcement

After only a few hours in the hospital for what was believed to be a heart arrest, Lisa Marie Presley passed away this morning, and tributes continue to come in.

On Thursday evening, Presley, who was the daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, passed away.

Priscilla revealed the tragic news that her “beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us” in a statement that she released to PEOPLE. “It is with a heavy heart that I must convey the heartbreaking news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla said.

“She was the most loving, passionate, and strong lady I have ever known. I will never forget her. As we struggle to come to terms with the magnitude of this loss, we respectfully request privacy. I am grateful for the love and prayers that have been sent. There are going to be no further comments made at this time.”

The performer, who during the course of her career has published three albums, was admitted to the hospital on January 12th. On Thursday, emergency medical technicians were called to the home of Lisa Marie in Calabasas, California, for a probable heart arrest. This happened just two days after she attended the 2023 Golden Globes alongside Priscilla and Elvis actor Austin Butler.

Elvis Presley’s ex-girlfriend, Linda Thompson, who earlier in the day had stated that she was “fervently praying” for Lisa Marie to pull through, posted a childhood photo of the star with her father and captioned it, “My heart is too heavy for words….” Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital after her father was found unresponsive.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to PEOPLE that paramedics were dispatched to the 5900 block of Normandy drive in Calabasas to assist a woman in her fifties who was not breathing. The woman’s name has not been released at this time. As soon as the paramedics arrived, they began performing CPR on the patient. When they saw that the patient was showing “signs of life,” they transported her to a nearby hospital for “urgent medical care.”

PEOPLE was able to confirm with a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department that the unit in question was sent to the location in response to a call reporting a cardiac arrest.

In addition to being the only child of rock legend Elvis Presley, the singer is also the mother to 14-year-old twin children Finley Aaron Love and Harper Vivienne Anne, whom she shares with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood. In the year 2020, her son Benjamin Keough, who was 27 at the time, took his own life.
