Valerie Bertinelli told followers that wearing jeans sparked memories of being “mercilessly humiliated” by a former lover.
In a TikTok video, the actor and Food Network star discussed her experience.
“I’m laughing because a minor hidden bruise got awakened today. “You can probably hear them because my pants are rubbing together and making this sound,” she explained.
While she could now laugh about her dress choices, she couldn’t always.
“I stopped wearing them because I was…mercilessly mocked, you know, ‘I’m too lazy to do something about it,’” she explained. They wouldn’t get along if you…’” she trailed off.
She described “hidden injuries” as “emotional, verbal, and mental abuse.”
“People can’t see [them], but we have to deal with them every day when they’re turned on,” she explained. “I’m so grateful that my healing work is working.”
Bertinelli admitted she was scared to share such a post for fear of being told to move on, but she had a message for those who had anything unpleasant to say: “This is called moving on. This is known as healing. And welcome to everybody who can identify with this and feels seen. “I’m simply another member of your clan.”
The Hot in Cleveland star did not name a specific ex-partner, but her comments came just days after she discussed healing after her divorce.
“It’s excruciating, yet there’s this release that’s incredibly therapeutic,” she wrote on Instagram. “I believe that a lot of emotional suffering is kept in the body, and I’m doing everything I can to heal from it — therapy, journaling, meditation, rolfing.”
In May 2022, Bertinelli filed for divorce from ex-husband Tom Vitale, six months after filing for legal separation. She announced in November 2022 that she was celebrating the “second best day of my life,” the day she formally divorced Vitale.
“I’m done with it. I’m done with the narcissist. “I’m done with the narcissist.”
